Bill & Bob’s Roast Beef opened in 1961 at the foot of the Beverly-Salem Bridge. In 1968, Greek immigrant Nondas “Nick” Lagonakis bought the shop and later traveled to Smithfield, Virginia, to help perfect James River BBQ Sauce, which became synonymous with Beefs. Today, Bill & Bob’s has three locations: the original in Salem, plus Peabody and Woburn.

The Salem shop has a drive-thru, indoor seating, and stays open until 2:00 AM most nights (2:30 AM on Fridays and Saturdays). It remains a classic late-night stop for Beef runs.
