Shop Talk
Kelly’s opened on Revere Beach in 1951 when Frank McCarthy and Ray Carey named their hot-dog stand after their friend Thomas Kelly. Soon after, a wedding they catered was canceled, leaving them with trays of roast beef. They sliced it thin, served it on toasted rolls, and kicked off the North Shore Beef tradition.
Juicy Info
Kelly’s is walk-up only. Many locals eat in the car, but you can also carry your Beef across the street to America’s first public beach, the pavilion, the seawall, or the sand.
